Mr. Gary Ngai, President of the Executive Board of MAPEAL and President of the Organizing Committee has paid visit to Wei Hai in China in August 2006 to meet with the collaborators of the Congress and carry out the first round of promotion activities in the mainland. Shortly after that, Mr. Ngai has started his promotion campaign in Mexico between August and September. During his visit, Mr. Ngai has been invited by the ITESM Asia-Pacific Institute from the Tecnologico de Monterrey University, Mexico as a special guest, to attend a Conference about the Relationships between China and Latin America. In the conference, Mr. Ngai has delivered a speech about Macau, as the platform between the said two regions. Taking the opportunity of this visit to Mexico, Mr. Ngai has also met with the Mexican Deputy-External Relations Minister Maria De Lourdes Aranda and the Directors of FIEALC in Mexico City, to discuss matters related to the preparation work of the 13th International Congress of FIEALC 2007. Besides, Mr. Ngai has also paid visit to the different academic institutions and business associations to further promote Macau and the Congress of FIEALC 2007. The trip to Mexico has brought a favourable response not only to the congress but also to Macau.

In November the same year, Mr. Ngai has travelled to Latin America again to continue his promotion activities in Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Chile. With the help of our associate members in Latin America, Mr. Ngai has been arranged to visit different academic institutes, government departments, China's embassies as well as some business associations. Among the different visits, he has met with the Argentinean Vice Foreign Minister in charge of foreign trade, Ambassador Luis Kreckler; the Head of the Department for Asia and Oceania of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dra. Regina Cordeiro Dunlop; Director of the Institute of External Relations under the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Isabel Allende Karam; the Executive Director of the Chilean Foundation of the Pacific, Dr. Manfred Wilhelmy; the Chinese Ambassador to Argentina, Mr. Zhang Tuo; the Chinese Ambassador to Chile, Mr. Li Changhua and the Chinese Cultural Attache to Brazil, Mr. Shu Jianping. They all encouraged the Macau people and MAPEAL to assist the Macau government in increasing contacts and exchange with institutions in Latin America, and they also put forward several important proposals.

This trip has enabled the academic institutes, government departments and business associations in Latin America to know more about Macau, the Congress of FIEALC 2007 as well as MAPEAL. Furthermore, Mr. Ngai has developed connections with the different entities that are essential to the promotion of the Congress of FIEALC as well as to the establishment of a solid foundation for the ongoing activities of MAPEAL in promoting relation between China, Macau and Latin America.

In early December 2006, Mr. Ngai has carried on his promotion campaign in Taiwan. He has attended a Forum about Latin America organized by Tam Kang University where he has introduced to the attendees about the Congress of FIEALC 2007 to increase publicity as well as to attract more people to take part in the congress in Macau this year.

With the promotion campaigns carried out by the President of the Organizing Committee for the past few months in different places around the world, the result of our promotion campaigns as a whole is much better than expected. Moreover, these campaigns have not only attracted the attention of the academic circles for the congress but also aroused the interest of other circles in knowing more about Macau.
